03 Mar 2013 Hafod-Morfa Regeneration Begins!

news image

Over the last week or so the Cadw-Welsh Government funded Cu @ Swansea project has begun the process of clearing foliage and cutting back trees around key buildings on the Hafod-Morfa site.  Contractors working for Groundwork Bridgend-Neath-Port Talbot have been hard at work with their strimmers and chain saws and the results are very strking as key features are revealed for the first time in several decades.  Especially exciting is the exposure of the giant rope-driven fly wheel that was powered by the Musgrave unliflow triple-cylinder engine that was installed in 1910 and was still working in 1980.  Anyone for a restoration project?!

Here are a few photographs of the riverside Vivian Engine Houses taken on Saturday 2 March 2013.  Apologies for the quality because they were taken on a rather basic mobile phone.  A full gallery will be posted in due course.
